He also said do you drink Rum.. Two yes's later and I was ready to go. Declan and I were spectators/support. Hub Cap wasn't racing serious because he had spent all day on the bike before hand and Declan and I missed two of his four laps! I've just comleted lap 4 so its still early in the race and I'm having a little lie down to try and relax my back and neck. When two very enthusiastic supporters stumble in rattling rum cans, shouting exuberant motivational words of wisdom at the top of their lungs and literally pick me up, throw a helmet on top and push me back out onto the trail.

Thanks boys. Although I think the hardest part of the entire event was trying not to fall off my bike coming out of transition as I looked up the hill to see you guys stripped down to your undies passionately encouraging people up the hill whether they wanted it or not. Laugh, man, I nearly spilt a valve!!!! Great work there should be more of it!"

The highlight of our night was running near naked from the bottom of the main climb with Andy Fellows (3rd place 24hr WORLDCHAMP) to the top, with a rum in one hand and cowbell in the other. Andy also managed to down half of Declan's rum can before smashing on another consistent lap time. Than having himself thank Declan and I for our rowdyness after the event was just AWESOME!Other highlights were cheering the Ay Up and For The Riders crew well everyone in general. So many smiles and so much laughter it made my day. Thanks Hubcap, Declan and everyone who was competing. Must say a very well organised event, a top way to start the year. It also sets a high expectation for the events organisers this year.

More photos to be added, hopefully a few of Andy F, The Ay Up and For The Riders crew's!

Stopped already

Unfortunately my month of training has been quickly stopped... Sunday I was hit by a car.. The driver didn't see me but thankfully he stopped and so did 4 or 5 others who all ran over to help. The driver than took me home and made sure I was ok while a kind lady took care of my bike. It all happened so quickly and I was very lucky to get away with minor injuries (torn ankle ligiments, gravel rash. 4-6 weeks off at this stage). 1metre to the left and I would of fallen onto a highway and a car width to the right and I would of been under on coming traffic. This accident was my first and was very scary. I now realise how dangerous cycling can be. I didn't do anything wrong but it only takes one mistake or one silly move to take a cyclist out. I got the guys work place name and hopefully will sort out some insurance details soon to cover bike bits that were damaged but the main reason I'm posting this is to thank all the people that stopped. I want you to know I really appreicate your help!

It all begins...

I have the motivation. So what's a better way to start blogging again with my first race in a while..

Mad Mike, Rooster, Tony, Leigh? and everyone else involved.. THANKS so much. That was such an enjoyable event and the free feed/drink went down as a treat.
NO bad comments about this race. Mt Perry and DELXC Flow 6 Hour (run by Grindin Gear'z) are already ticked for next season!

Tazy and our set up

Now to my epic report.I was in a two man team with Tazy. Team BNT (Bradley n Taylor). Tazy had a good start until his chain decided to eat his cassette and spokes which resulted with a nice run back to the start line so I had to restart the race from dead last. We were dead last =[. Taylor was annoyed but we kept positive. All was going okay until the 4th lap when a poor guy had a bad crash who busted his nose and leg. Tazy helped him but came in with a 34 Min lap. We were glad the guy was okay - so we weren't worried about the time lost (it's not worlds yet, safety first!). Again we were near last..

Taylor smashing it.

I was pumping pretty consistent 20 min laps and Tazy with 21min's. The results showed 7th place! So we made the goal to get 5th. A few laps after and we were 6th, than 4th. Than on my way down rollercoaster.. piizzzzzzzzzzz FLAT. I kept riding on the flat tyre and got Tazy off.

We were talking to Mad Mike about how we'd wish we didn't have any troubles until he mentioned that if you helped a injuried person the time can be taken off! So he got the race organiser and the injuried man to sort out how long it took and worked out an average lap times than took off the time extra, Tazy was doing consistent 21 mins laps and took 34mins for the lap. So 12mins was taken off, which meant we weren't to far behind 3rd.

Me focused

Mad Mike told the top 4 teams what had happened. For the riders weren't happy sitting in third with us close behind, I passed them before the time was taken off though so either way it didn't matter. Hammering on we still pumped out 20/21min laps and we managed to tie second with Chain Gang (Ross and Stu).

Diclan being normally un-cool

Congrauts to Cam and Chris - It would of been a very tight and exciting race if all went smoothly!! In the pairs men there was a Chain Gang jeresy on every podium place!! AARON - YOU ARE A MACHINE, congrauts on your win. Declan - your a D**K but your okay i guess! Tazy - mad team mate, thanks for having me and working so well together! I'm going to turn into a machine riding with this guy and I can't wait! Yeoowww

This morning I rode to the local crit on my mtb and watched the last 15mins or so of A and B grade, I got a few weird looks and the "why aren't you out there" comments. I wish I raced now! Again it was a little confusing and some B graders were getting pissed off, but thats racing - you never know what to expect. I also caught up with a lot of people I haven't seen in a while! It was great. Jaman wasn't attacking =O, I asked him after and he told me he has Time Trial Champs tomorrow! Crazy guy. Good luck mate, smash it! Congrauts to Sev (Scott) for winning B grade!

After chatting away I rode to 17 mile rocks and had a look at Chain Gang and caught up with Chris to see how things are going. All was sweet and he bought me lunch, Thanks!! On the way home I got lost in the city but it was fun. I felt average today but instead of trying to hammer I took it easy - hopefully hit up Gap Creek tomorrow, if not bunya for sure!!

It's been a whileee

Well it's been a while since I've last posted so theres a lot to be said.. (in dot points =] )

1. Had a shit race and cracked my Merida frame (wasn't under warrenty)
2. Was getting over riding for a while now and decided I needed a break.
3. Had a month off riding and went out with mates camping etc
4. Had a awesome time.
5. Eventually got around to collecting my new frame (alloy this time)
6. Ended up with 5 weeks off bike.
7. First ride back was 80kms, riding to gap creek, doing a night ride there than riding home
8. Second ride was 60km's south boundry including Augies etc.. This nearly killed me
9. I rode a rigid single speed 29er for the first time
10. Rode the 29er again!
--- Did some rides but I can't remember [Big blank space]
11. Went to race road for first time again at Lakeside - pouring rain though and was called off. Ended up riding home via redcliffe with the Dog. "Matt Dog"
12. Ky, Tazy and I hit up Gap creek for an awesome ride that was all about performance.
13. Did my first road crit in a year and first race on the carbon road bike, jumped into B grade and surpised myself with my performance - I chased down two guys and brought a few riders with me to create a 6 man break away that stayed away from the pack to the end of the race (30mins).
13.1 Riverfire ride at Gap Creek with Ky, Woody, Hamish and Michael. Watched the fireworks from the resouivor than BBQ at Kys.
13.2 Ky and I went to help out at the Police Games at OHV. I ended up racing for shits and giggles and was doing well until I rolled my tube inside my rim =\
13.3 Watched the DH at the police games, rode down the narly DH bit!
14. Yeahhhh
15. That's about all I remember at the moment!

Me Jumping Woody at Gap Creek<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; I met Steph through her father (Juscruzin) who is a very good mtber and he rides funny size wheels... but thats okay. Anyway the semi went very well and we all had heaps of fun.

I stayed the night at Nick's and the next morning took Steph for a ride. Nick said I could take out his Rigid 29er Single Speed and OH MY GOD they are AMAZING! Honestly who needs suspenison with big wheels! I think the ulimate marathon bike would have to be a lightweight 29er hardtail! On the single track some sections felt a little different but the only thing slowing me down was the one gear! The gearing set up was perfect for the climbs around bunya though- I didn't walk once. I even got up Waynes world!!!

We got back and Nick said there was a ride organised by Zep on Sunday if I wanted to come and that I could stay the night again. So I went home got all my gear, fixed up the Jamis and back to Nicks I went. The ride on sunday was my first proper ride in a month! I can't believe how much fun I was having even with the cold that was putting my heart through the roof! It was 50kms through south boundry, augies, goat track, pony trails etc with 1500m climbing. After the ride I ate two pies and a Ice Coffee at Samford bakery with the crew - AWESOME.

Sunday afternoon I attended the bunya arvo cruise with Steph and again I was on the rigid 29er single speed. I really enjoyed the 29er and would defintely be thinking about one in the future..

Here are some photos from the Semi.

Nebo

Last night I rode to Gap Creek and met Ky at the entrance of Mt Cootha. We were to ride out to the Nebo shelter and back. I was hammered after smashing myself out there. On the way I stopped quickly to reply to a text to hear a beep beep! I finished texting and continued riding to notice the beeping hoon with his window down at the lights.... it was Matt Dog!!! than he yelled abuse telling me to smash it, smash it, SMASH IT so I smashed it. Gotta love that guy! When I got there Ky was taking his bike off the car than soon after we left. I love South Boundry some nice climbs and awesome descents. I kept hammering myself some more, pushing a much bigger gear than usual etc. I don't time myself but Ky smashed his previous time by 14mins or so. Awesome effort, the weather was perfect and as usual we had heaps fun.

Formal time

Last friday was my formal. It started on saturday, rushing around in fact but turned out very good. Orginally I was going to ride out to Old Hidden Vale for the Bling Day Out (98.2km) on my merida but plans changed and another rider who was going to come pulled the pin because I didn't want to ride my road bike out. Anyways I don't have a GPS nor particularly keen to ride nearly 100kms without a clue where I am going! So I gave Ky a quick call asking if he'd ride out. He was afraid of being to slow and didn't want to be screwed for the shortcourse race. He said I could stay the night and we'll leave early and get WoodyJnr on the way out. I managed to miss two trains after my rushing around and got to see and experience many strange things on the train there. Ky and Woody got me from the train statiob and we went back to Ky's for dinner. We watched foxtel and ate a very yummy spaghetti with diet coke! mmmmm. After a good nights sleep under the warm air con we were off to smash some good Old Hidden Vale trails.

Kaji, Woody, Ky, Me and Hungry Stu

Met some 29er riders from mtbdirt.

The 3 of us entered B grade in the short course for a bit of fun before hitting the trails, I wasn't taking the race seriously just entered for the elbow knocking, knee banging and hooning! The race started with a 20m run, I jogged to my bike and was around 6th the start was pretty quick but I passed most people at the first short climb, than on the main climb I managed a 200m gap on 2nd place.

The bottom of the main climb.

I stopped at the top where the spectors were and had a chat until the others came rode by. I left around half the field go before leaving again. I purposely cut infront of Woody only to be passed by a 4X move around a switchback. Must say I was impressed and started talking and saying how cool it looked. Woody than said you could still win this. At this stage I couldn't even see 1st place but I gave it crack. Again the main climb came around and I was first up again. For the rest of the race I kept looking back, chatted to riders I overlapped, talked to the spectors and finished with 6 laps. I told Haydz I wasn't being serious and that 2nd place should claim first prize. I was busting to go to the toilet and rode off to the loo, came back to race Elite but there weren't many starters and they combined them with Open. So I missed the start, The racing wasn't serious but was very fun for a 30min race.

After we rode some trails which as normal were awesome, I was lucky enough to take a 9.5kg 140mm travel carbon ibis mojo for a trashing. It felt like a moto bike and having so much travel made it very comfortable. Putting the bike sideways was easy and very easy to control. I was flying down the trails (well it felt like it). Unfortunately the day had to end but I can't wait to get out to Old Hidden Vale again and spend some more time with Ky and WoodyJnr, they are the maddest mates, I really appreciate all there help and I always have a ball when i'm around them! It was good catching up with Kaji and all the other new and not so new mtbdirters. Thanks to Haydz and Peter for the very well organised event.

Till next time. I should of gotten my P's but I delayed getting my learners 5 months so turning 17 was nothing special, just another day!

Anyways today was the last sunshine series race THANK GOD, I did not enjoy the short course this year round. But I still went to every race and finished all of them except one from a crash/mechanical. On the way home, I was asleep in the car and mum woke me up telling me that Chris from Chain Gang had texted to tell me I got 3rd overall for the series. I was very surpised, just by showing up and finishing I was able to get enough points 3rd overall.

Break from racing

Well this weekend was AWESOME. MT PERRY is AWESOME. Having fun is AWESOME.
THANKS MADMIKE, GRINDING GEARZ and THE LAND OWNERS. This weekend was the Mt Perry 6 hour, I got a lift up and camped sat and sunday.

Best weekend ever, I had a ball, loved it, I'll be back for sure My race report is short. I didn't go there to race, I went there with no expectations besides having fun and it wasn't fun.. it was AMAZING! It was funny because the first practice lap it was raining and I walked nearly everything that looked scary. Second practice lap I rode everything, race day I rode everything and only grew with confidences. I did the first few laps at a pace that put me in the top 10 in open solo and was sitting on Na's tail.

Everytime I rode past Mad Mike he was giving me a mad warp, telling everyone I was 16 and doing well etc. Unfortunately I had not planned to race seriously although I'm quite confindent I could of kept that pace (I felt a little embarassed hearing Mike say those things when I wasn't going hard).

Next year I'm going to train for this event, I loved it and I would love to race hard and see how I go. I did a lap with Grant Widseth - He probs thought I was a smart arse sprinting off from him than letting him catch me again. He got 6th over all, very well done mate. I had a ball hanging with all my riding mates, copping shit from Declan, getting blinded by Declan, smashing Declan on the gameboys, stacking the kids bike with Declan and Declan just being a doosh.

I loved sitting around the fire with my second family (juscruzin and co) and catching up with everyone. Thanks And finally HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to BIM and GAZMAN for the lift up, feeding me, talking to me and giving me a mouth full about me nutrition everytime I touched food or drink .

PIC'S to be POSTED

Ironbark,Samford,Goat Track,Sth Boundary, Augies,Creek,Center Rd,Bellbird

Today was my first ride this week, with all the rain I thought I a may aswel take a week off while the conditions are poor. Today was all about smashing myself, I didn't want to be the quickest. I wanted to hurt.I really under prepared for this ride though, a late night out than going straight to bed when I got home and getting up at 5am to get ready meant something had to go wrong. I opened the cupboard to find no museli bars. I looked through my school bag to find 3 haha.. and I found 4 cans of creamed rice. By the time I found all that I was running late. So I grabbed a chocolate muffin for breakky and jumped in the car.

Some of the best riding mates!!!

I met up for a ride organised on mtbdirt, the route was to be Ironbark,Samford,Goat Track,Sth Boundary, Augies,Creek,Center Rd,Bellbird, which means a quiet a bit of climbing. I used the big ring for as long as I could before the climbs became to steep and to long to keep pushing a big gear. I ended up using the big ring for just over half the ride. Towards the end I felt pretty shabby, big ring really took it out of me. Lack of food wouldn't of helped. I ate what I had left and started to feel alright which was good because I had to ride home!

Other than that, the ride was awesome, I had a ball. I caught up with heaps of rideing mates and smashed my legs. Can't get much better than that, i'll have to do more of these rides!

The group re gathering

A road section..

A wet grass section

Woody is a machine (and he doesn't ride with clip in's :O )

A nice cruise to clear the mind

After having a crash in the practice lap of D Aguliar and breaking my cable guide off my frame than not finishing the race I had to do something to clear my mind. So I jumped onto my bike and rode out to Bunya.I was a little early and decided to roll around some trails, stop at some sections, walk over them and pick better lines.

I met the group at 3:30pm and for the second week in a row I took Juscruzin's daughter (Steph) to the cruise. My performance this year compared to my first race last year at the sunshine series is worst. I had slower lap times, I've been giving up half way through the race and just not having fun. I have a new bike which is a hell of a lot better than what I raced on last year. I can't put it down to anything else other than lack of confidences and a build up of anxiety. I have been riding as much as I can, I can keep up with mates when mucking around and training, I have fun and just totally enjoy riding however, race day is a totally different story.

I'm sick of looking for excuses, I don't want to whinge or become a "whinger". I don't want to look bad, I can't look bad for Chain Gang. I couldn't explain why I was failing and it was really bugging me. I felt shit, it hurt. My mind was full of "i've been riding heaps why can't I do well? have I ridden to many road kms? have I not practiced enough techincal stuff? the others have a coach I don't, I'm going to get smashed, Why aren't I doing well? Why do I crash at races? The others aren't worried why am I? why am I all over the place but I'm fine training? why?"

The point of this post was to let out what i've kept in, no one likes failing - especially me, not after how much money my parents have pumped into this sport to keep me going in the past 18months, all the hard work my sponsor does for me, all people who have helped me with advice, training partners and the reputation of been trying to build in the mountain bike community.

So what am I going to do about it? Well a race is a race, a series is a series, it's my first proper season its a learning curve. I failed this one but theres heaps more to come.. I'll attack next years Sunshine series with a more positive attitude, only worry about myself and keep my mind focused on what I need to do.

No more excuses.

Clean!

I finally cleaned my road bike

Camera phone is pretty dodgy though..

Merida 24

Wow, This was my second 24 hour and one to remember for sure. I was in Chain Gang/Redback Cycles. We lost Rooster (Redback Cycles) to an arm injury requiring medical attention after 2 or so hours and we had to continue on as a 3 man team.

We were 2nd pretty much all night and until early morning, than it was a battle for 2nd in the last few hours. Unfortunately I managed 4 flats (team managed 6) which was a pain and we lost a large amount of time and the last flat was disapointing as I had wrong tube (I had to go back to the start line) and was unable to chase down Fit To Excel rider with 3 laps to. We finished with 3rd, not bad considering we did 51 laps (3 were Roosters) and we all got under 2 hours sleep.

I had a ball chilling with the MTBDirt crew, meeting new people, seeing Bozza, Matt Dog and Whippet Boy smash the solo catagory and talking to the Merida Team. Especially Dave Whitney, who really showed interest in talking to me, giving tips and seeing how I went, I even managed to do half a lap on his tail. Boy he is quick.

A HUGE thanks to Chain Gang for all the support, infinit for the amazing drinks and HID Technologies for those very very bright lights. Also, thanks for those who helped me on track when I double flated etc and Peter/Haydz from tailwind for producing yet another awesome event.

Podium photo!

Team 96... one day.....

Till Next Time!

A quick update

A few weeks ago Ky's and my awesome day at OHV was cancelled due to the rain =[.
Instead we went for a river loop on our mountain bikes, i had a slip on a wet walk way and got my first scratch on my Merida, I was spewwing. Oh well. In the short 30km ride I also managed to get two flats and sliced tyre. Just not my day..

Last weekend I went to Gap Creek with Chris (Chain Gang) Nick (training partner and a few other local riders) to learn some skills. I was doing alright and was having a ball. But the session was called short unfortunately. I was following Chris to closely and unaware of the trails I didn't see a biggish drop. Over the bars I went and bent my handle bars and cracked my helmet in two places. I'm glad I didn't injure myself. Chris being the best sponsor made sure I was okay and took me to the shop to get some new handle bars and helmet (thanks heaps). Than Nick and I rode home from the shop. I arrived at Nicks and noticed I would be able to make the Bunya arvo cruise and rode to the meeting point. I still managed to get 60 or so kilometres in.

Pic's to come!!!

Long Weekends Rule

A four day weekend is a awesome way to put some solid km's in. Friday I had a epic day full of riding, firstly I rode to Gap Creek to meet up with Ky. We than headed up to Mt Nebo cafe through the bush. We had a drink and a bite to eat at the cafe before heading back to Gap Creek, I felt alright and was going to ride home, but Ky offered me a lift and on the way home Ky was going to drop into 99 bikes to collect something but they were closed (public holiday) so we got some lunch instead. When I got home I cleaned my room had some more food, packed my bag and jumped onto the roadie, off to my mates place. My mate recently moved out to Dayboro area, when I arrived at Dayboro I gave him a call asking what street, that's when he told me to he lives up Mt Mee. 25 odd km's later I finally got there. Thank god for Ay Up's!!

Awesome views up there and I had a ball with my mates. The next morning I had to ride home.... In the pouring rain!!! It wasn't a fun experience, cars wizzing past at 100km/h in some areas was very scary. Anyways I cleaned my bikes this morning and I'm now getting ready to stay the night at Kys. Ky, Matt Dog, Matts mate and myself are hitting up Old Hidden Vale tomorrow. I can't wait! I'll post a full report about it tomorrow night.

While I was cleaning my bike I swapped my wheels over to see how they look.

6 Hour - Slickers

Round 3 sunshine series was cancelled so I made the most of my free weekend and put some solid miles into my legs. Had a good ride Saturday and Sunday I rode out to Slickers to watch everyone have some fun in the mud!! I got offered a entry but after the amount of rain the few days before there was no way I was getting my new bike destoryed!

One dirty dog having a ball!!!

Ky rode strong and managed 9 laps, awesome!

I had a ball watching/catching up with everyone again and meeting new people. I had a nice talk to Jeff Toohey who kindly offered to get my bike dirty , he's awesome, what a great bloke and to smash out the quickest lap time of 17mins... insane!! I also met Bozza a Ay Up - Hammer Nutrtion rider, at first I was talking to Hill Billy about riding, my sponsor and eventually getting a coach and Bozza heard and recommended me a guy. Soon after I realised I recognised him from somewhere- his riding his blog of course! So I went back and introduced myself, it was good meeting you mate and awesome racing hopefully see you around. The first two laps weren't the best way to start the race. Ross had a good start but flatted on the quick fire trail towards the end of the lap, luckly we didn't lose to much time. Through interchange he came and off I went, I also flatted on the fire trail but with only 2.5kms to go and being a light weight whippet I decided it would be quicker to continue riding than changing the tube. We came back from 3rd or 4th position to win our catagory and to win overall being the only team to get 13 laps.

Round two Ross and I were teamed up together again but decided to make it a 3 man team picking up Allan the night before. We were up against Redback Cycles who are very quick and kept us fighting all day. They didn't have the best start due to a flat but it wasn't long before they were back in our faces. It was back to back for a few laps and they slowly crept away, last lap they were 5 mins up on us and they made it in for another 20sec's before the 6 hour time limit. Leaving us a lap down, I was the weak link in the team being the youngest and slowest out of both teams. The track was awesome but was pretty rocky and left me wishing I was on a dually like my team mates. It was my first race and proper singletrack ride on the new bike. Had to play with the suspenison because I hadn't adjusted it correctly. It felt a lot better than the Jamis! We ended up with 2nd place and we were happy with that!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319256931377846354" style="WIDTH: 320px; Trickle! I'm back!

Well after deleting my old Blog its time to restart!!

Anyways riding has been okay, I've been so busy with work and I haven't been able to train as much as I'd like. Ross and I won the 6 hour (1st March) at Old Hidden Vale in a two man team and won overall with 13 laps. But due to lack of strength/high intensity training and racing experience I haven't had the best start to the short course season. With races nearly every weekend it's hard choose what to do and find time to train for each event, personally I believe I'd go better at the longer events and I'm tossing up whether to do the next sunshine series race on the 6 hour at Kurwongbah.

Other news...
